Great Zoo Exhibit: Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley

Elephant ZooElephants of the Zambezi River Valley is the latest outstanding exhibit on display at the Sedgwick County Zoo.  Located in Wichita, Kansas the Sedgwick County Zoo is the number 1 rated outdoor attraction in the state.  Now with the Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley, the zoo’s newest and most expensive exhibit, there number one status should be cemented for years to come.  New Elephant Exhibit
This is a state of the art exhibit first opened Memorial Day Weekend, 2016.  It is the third largest elephant exhibit in the country.  Has over 5 acres of outdoor space, and an indoor facility.  It also lays claim to the largest elephant pool of any zoo.  An important aspect for them to keep cool on those hot summer days.  Like so many zoos in the United States the Sedgwick County Zoo is just the latest to revamp their elephant habitat.
Elephant YardKaren and I were extremely impressed by it.  Even more so after we visited the now open but not completed African area at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.  Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley has 2 main yards.  The 3.6 acre South Yard has a 550,000 gallon pool and a water canon to give the elephants a nice shower.  The North Yard is 1.2 acres also has a wading pool, stream and waterfall.  There are two additional off-display yards to give the animals some privacy and an 18,000 square foot indoor facility.   Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley
Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley coupled with the Pride of the Plains makes for a premier African animal’s exhibit.  We have always like visiting the Sedgwick County Zoo and now our trip there is even more enjoyable.  They have made several key improvements to an already wonderful zoo.  With this latest piece Karen and I will have to start to rethink our Top 10 Zoo List
