Top 10 Albuquerque

ABQ a city that we have visited many times as we have trekked out west.  It is fun a city, lots to see and do.  We enjoy Albuquerque probably more than we should.  One reason might be due to the fact there is not whole bunch of things to see on the way there. Western Oklahoma, Panhandle of Texas, and Eastern New Mexico are pretty desolate places.  So when we hit Albuquerque it is like we finally have reached civilization again.  Even after a half dozen trips through the city we have not done it all.  Below is our Top 10 Albuquerque list of what we have liked and what we still want to do.

Top 10 Albuquerque

10. Petroglyph National Monument

Petroglyph KingNative American and Spanish rock art is what you will find at the Petroglyph National Monument.  It is home to one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America. Not the prettiest scenery in the world but volcanic rock might warm up your heart.  For more information, visit their website by clicking here.

9. Albuquerque Museum of Art and History

Art and History Museum
Albuquerque is an old city especially by North American standards.  Founded in 1706 the ABQ has a rich history.  So no better place to learn about that history then at this museum.  For more information, visit their website by clicking

8. Paseo del Bosque

RedPaseo del Bosque is a biking/hiking trail that follows the Rio Grande.  What separates it from other similar trails is that it is uninterrupted by roadway trail.  Pretty Cool.  That means when I have my run or bike on no need to wait for traffic lights.  Of course, I will need to be motivated enough on vacation to go out and exercise. 7. National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

Fat Man and Little Boy
If you are a history buff like I am then you will love this museum.  I would like to place this higher on the list but if you think history is boring this might not be the museum for you.  Thus it sits at number 7.  It is the country’s only congressionally chartered museum in its field.  For more information, visit their website by clicking here.

6. Sandia Peak Tramway

Sandia Peak Tramway above Albuquerque, New MexicoSkiing in the winter or biking in the summer.  Sandia Peak Tramway will be your ticket up.  It is also the way for incredible views of the New Mexico countryside.  We have not done this one yet or it might be higher on our list. For more information, visit their website by clicking here.

5. Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Albuquerque, NM
One of the two things on our list that we have not experienced.  However, we have heard only good things so eventually we will make it there.  It is a museum on the 19 Indian Pueblos of New Mexico. For more information, visit their website by clicking here.

4. ABQ Biological Park

Rio Grande Botanical GardenAffordable when considering that it is three attractions for one price.  A garden, aquarium, and zoo that makes a fun filled family outing.  The garden is probably the best of the three followed closely by the zoo and a distant third is the aquarium.  For more information, visit their website by clicking here.

3. Old Town

san Felipe de Neri Church
The old heart of the ABQ.  Fun area with lots of unique shops and old adobe style buildings.  It is also the location of the historic San Felipe de Neri Church. For more information, visit their website by clicking here.
