Birmingham Botanical Garden: Fabulous Floral Freebie

Spring BloomBirmingham Botanical Garden is a large botanical garden with over 12,000 different plants in its collection all for the viewing public to enjoy for free.   On its 67.5 acre grounds the Birmingham Botanical gardens has over 25 unique gardens from an old-fashioned Irish Rose Garden to a hike through native Alabaman woodland.  The garden also has a nice conservatory so even if you visit in the offseason like we did there will be something in bloom.conservatoryOur particular visit was in early spring when we were driving through the area on our way to Atlanta with our 21 month old daughter and were looking for things to see during the long drive.  The Birmingham Botanical Garden ended up giving us the best option it is a top notch garden and it is free.  Unfortunately the garden was not in full bloom yet, but that was ok way with us because we did not have hours to spend there.  While our time was limited we still had a quality visit and our little girl loved getting out of the car and going for a stroll through several of the different themed gardens.Cactus GardenAfter our hour or so visit to the garden it was easy to see why the Birmingham Botanical Garden is one of Alabama’s top free attractions.  I am sure it is really nice especially during the peak season with its many shady areas and nice walking trails.  The people of Birmingham are really lucky to have such a large and free public botanical garden.White FlowerBirmingham Botanical Garden was the perfect stop for us as we were driving from Memphis Tennessee to Atlanta Georgia.  Though we were driving through in the middle of March and not that many flowers were in bloom we still enjoyed our visit and the chance to stretch our legs in a beautiful location.  Since the gardens are free to visit I am sure that if we ever drive through the area again we will be stopping.  I am just hoping that next time we will be there a little bit later in the season.
