Sea Life Aquarium Kansas City:

In the bubbleSea Life Aquarium Kansas City is one of 40 Sea Life Aquariums found throughout the world.  We had never been to a Sea Life Brand Aquarium before and though it is not the best aquarium we have ever been to it was still an enjoyable visit.  The aquarium is located in Crown Plaza, a shopping and entertainment complex in Kansas City.  If you are so inclined you can buy a combination ticket which will also give you access to Legoland which is right next door.sting raysMy wife and I are always looking for things to visit or do and are very conscience about how much things cost so when visiting an aquarium, which tends to be rather expensive for us, we hope the experience is worth the cost.  Like always we check out the reviews and official website to help us make up our minds and since most of the reviews were mixed we wrestled with the decision.  Our one and half year daughter enjoys looking at pictures of tropical fish and stories about them so we decided to go.scoping the tankSea Life Aquarium Kansas City has your typical aquarium fanfare with a touch pool, freshwater fish area, jellyfish, a “Finding Nemo” inspired exhibit, lots of beautiful tropical fish, and an underwater ocean tunnel.  While no exhibits were earth shattering the aquarium was well put together and represented a variety of different fish.  The Sea Life Aquarium Kansas City is on the smaller side but the good news was that our tickets were good for all day so we could walk through as much as we wanted or return after visiting the rest of the Crown Center Plaza.Looking at LobstersThe aquarium houses more than 5,000 animals throughout their 30 exhibit areas.  The most impressive is their underwater ocean tunnel which takes you through 260,000 gallons of water filled with some amazing sea creatures like sea turtles, sting rays, tropical reef fish, and the very unique looking bowmouth guitarfish.  The touch pool and the knowledgable lady that was running it was also a treat.  She was very accommodating to all visitors and tried to make the touch pool experience fun and exciting.Checking out the fishOne of the main highlights of our visit was watching as our daughter was exploring the different bubble areas located in the fish tanks.  Her little hands reaching out to grab and point at the fish as they floated by the glass she still talks about it and gestures anytime we talk about our trip to the aquarium or read about fish in her children’s books.  We really appreciated the creative team that came up with all those different ways to get as close as possible to the fish without getting wet.Walking with RaysOverall our visit to the Sea Life Aquarium in Kansas City made for an enjoyable afternoon.  If you are visiting Crown Plaza or staying there at the hotel I recommend getting a morning ticket and visiting at least twice during your stay.  It takes about an hour to go through, longer depending how long you spend looking at each exhibit.  We did enjoy our visit their though we probably will not be going back multiple times whenever our travels takes us towards Kansas City.
