Lost Creek Falls Trail: Short Trail to Solitude

Lost Creek FallsLost Creek Falls Trail is a nice short trail to a waterfall in Yellowstone National Park.  The trailhead is located right behind the Roosevelt Lodge in the Tower area of the national park.  The Lost Creek Falls Trail is actually an offshoot of the much longer trail called the Lost Lake Loop that we had to save for another trip to Yellowstone due to our time constraints that particular day.By the TrailThis was a lovely little area of the park due not only to the pleasant wooded trail but also that lack of crowds.  The trail heads mostly up hill on a well-marked trail for a little over a half a mile.  At the end of the trail there is a nice 40 foot waterfall.  The Lost Creek Falls like most mountain waterfalls is more spectacular in spring with the snowmelt and tapers off throughout the summer.MossMy wife and I really enjoyed this trail and hope next time we are in the Yellowstone area we can take the loop trail to Lost Lake.  We had also heard that it is good area to see wildlife especially black bears though on our particular visit we did not come across anything other than some Steller’s jays.  Not sure a whole bunch of tourists know about this particular waterfall while it pales in comparison to some of the great ones around the Yellowstone area but the solitude of the place just being a half mile from a park lodge really makes the Lost Creek Falls Trail a good day hike in Yellowstone National Park.Lost CreekRemember that you are in wild country and it can be dangerous if you do not use common sense and sound judgment. Not only are the animals wild but so is the land and getting too close to either can make a great vacation go sour and even be deadly real quick. Animals will protect themselves, their area, and young while the geothermal areas are fragile and dangerous so stay on assigned paths. If you use caution and are prepared Yellowstone will be a great life experience and please leave it just as you found it so the next person can enjoy. Happy Travels!!!
