A few of my favorite things: for a 14 month old

Our precious little daughter is just growing and growing and at fourteen months old she is a whirlwind of activity.  We have so much fun, our days a packed full from the moment she wakes up until the moment she goes to sleep.  I try my best to keep up with her, man what I would give for some of that youthful energy!

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to list out a few of my favorite things that are useful for a fourteen month old.

1. Library Card

Without a doubt this is one of the most amazing things in my arsenal.  Not only is it free but we get a fun little trip to the library and M absolutely adores reading books.  I’m trying to make it a habit to go to the library at least once a week so we can try out all of the books and always have something new to look at without breaking the bank.  We mostly get the baby board books, but we are branching out into the next step up, more paper pages and she is in love.  We got the three little pigs on our last visit and she is mesmerized, she will sit still and follow along while I read every word.  I just love her to pieces.

2. Melissa & Doug ‘Jenna’ Baby Doll

My Mom and Dad bought M her very first doll for her first birthday and she is in love!  The first thing she asks for, without fail, after every nap and first thing in the morning is her ‘baby…baby..’.  She hugs her and pats her head and gives her kisses, reads to her and shows her all the toys.  It is so precious to see her nurturing another little baby with such love and softness.  It makes me feel like she would be okay with a baby brother or sister one of these days.

3. Swimways Baby Spring Float Activity Center (Pool Floaty)

We bought this pool floaty off amazon at the beginning of summer to use with M in our pool and she thinks it’s pretty great.  It’s almost like a little boat, she can freely kick her legs and it has a little mesh ‘shelf’ where we can rest a few toys to keep her entertained.  I especially love the fact that it has a sun canopy.  I try to do everything I can to keep her skin safe from the sun.

4. Kelty Pathfinder 3.0 Backpack Carrier

As much as I hate to admit it (because I love the Bjorn) M is starting to get a little too big to ride in her Baby Bjorn.  Luckily Kenny’s Mom and Dad gave M an awesome hiking backpack carrier for her birthday and it has been a lifesaver.  We took it on our trip to Yellowstone and even use it on the weekends at our local lake or at the nature trails.  She loves sitting up so high and getting a birds eye view of her surroundings.

5.  Bird Feeder

M is as much of a nature lover as her Dad and Mom so we love the fun bird feeder that Daddy set up on a shepherds hook right in front of our big bay window in the living room.  Several times a day we run over to our comfy bench and just sit in the window watching all the birds come and eat seed and the squirrels scurry around underneath picking up the dropped nuggets.  It is so much fun, Kenny and I even enjoy seeing so many birds all gathered in one place.

6. Little Little Golden Books

These awesome tiny books are another treasure I’ve gotten from my Mom.  They are just like the traditional Golden Books except they are tiny, about two and a half by two and a half inches, the perfect size for little hands and I can stash a few in my purse to have handy whenever the need for a little distraction may arise (like while you’re standing in line at the grocery store).  I have about three right now but I would LOVE to get my hands on a few more.  M gets excited every time she sees her little books!

7. The First Years Take and Toss Straw Cups

When M first started drinking any liquid besides breast milk I fed her with a straw like she was a little baby bird.  I would hold it above her head and she would sip the liquid down into her mouth.  She quickly learned how to drink from a straw.  I was thankful and excited that we were able to bi-pass a bottle (of juice or water) as well as a sippy cup and go straight to a cup with a straw.  She’s such a big girl!  The doctor said this is great for her teeth because the juice or milk will got further into her mouth rather than sitting on her teeth so much.

8. My First Touch & Feel Flashcards

These little flashcards have been useful and fun for so long.  We bought them for M for Christmas when she was six months old and we have been playing with them ever since.  They are especially useful because they can kind of grow with you.  When she was tiny I would just show them to her and speak the word out loud while she looked them over and touched the fur or roughness or whatever the ‘touch’ part was.  Now she is old enough to pick the card from among a group of cards or sometimes even say what the word is.  It is so exciting to see her learning and watch her little brain work.

9. Soccer Ball

Kenny is a soccer coach and former soccer player so it was inevitable that M would get a soccer ball too.  This one is just her size and she has love it since the day we got it when she was about six months old.  When she was crawling she would chase her little ball all over the house and now that she is walking she can kick it, much to the delight of her sweet Daddy.  Sometimes Kenny will hold her hands and they will kick that little ball from one end of the house to the other while M squeals with glee.

10. Pinterest

Okay…okay…this may be pushing it a bit but I really get some good ideas from pinterest.  There are so many amazing ideas for crafts, activities, clothes, snacks, everything you could possibly imagine doing with your sweet baby.  I love browsing this site and pinning to my hearts content.  You have to be careful and test out the suggestions and not take everything at face value, but it is truly an amazing resource.

I hope these are useful or at least interesting to you guys.  Did I miss anything?  What has been awesome for your little ones?

An outdoor swing was pretty handy for me. The list could go on and on.
