Sunday Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:28

2 Samuel 7:28 O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.

I hate to admit this but one thing I am struggling with is understanding baby M’s sleeping.  Her naps are hardly ever longer than 45 minutes (often more like 25 or 30) and she is still waking up at least once every night.  I don’t mind getting up with her to nurse at night time and it isn’t that awful that she has short naps, but I want her to be healthy and get enough sleep and I want the same thing for myself.

Every night as I am bouncing her to sleep or laying her in her crib or getting into bed myself with anxious ears, waiting to hear my little girl, I find myself praying and praying and praying that God will help her sleep.  I know God isn’t a magic genie who is there to grant my every wish, but in most instances when I pray about things that I am struggling with they work out or come to a resolution.  I realize that sometimes God’s answer to prayers is not yet, so maybe He is using this struggle to teach me something or to better me in some way.  He is trustworthy and has good things in store for me.

Some rare nights when it is about 2:45 in the morning and I’m getting up for the third time it is hard to not feel like God is punishing me for something.  But I’m trying to understand what purpose this could be serving in my life.  It is teaching me patience and making me closer to and rely even more on my husband.  It is good for baby M to be close to her Momma and I do cherish those dark quiet moments nursing or bouncing when I am able to focus on nothing but stroking my beautiful babies hair.  It brings me to tears right now just thinking about how much I love her and how much she needs me.

So even as I am struggling to understand my sweet girls sleep, I know The Lord is God and He is trustworthy and He has promised good things to His servant.
