Top 10 Things to See or Do in the Dallas Fort Worth Area

The Dallas Fort Worth area is a place that Karen and I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in when we travel to Texas.  Now we can do without the traffic, but as far as having high quality entertainment the Dallas Fort Worth area has it in spades.  Karen and I highly recommend taking a trip to the Dallas Fort Worth area and checking out some of the things on our list of the top 10 things to see or do in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

10. Billy Bob’s

If you are going to spend some time in Texas you might want to spend as little time going country at the “World’s Largest Honky Tonk.”  Billy Bob’s is Fort Worth’s premier country and western nightclub with over 100,000 feet to boot scoot and boogie.  They have popular country acts perform there so check their website to see who is in town.

9. Perot Museum of Nature and Science

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is the new kid in town having just opened its $185 million dollar campus on December 1st 2012.  It has 11 permanent exhibit halls that fill up its 180,000 square feet of space, but you will not feel like you are alone there it is quickly becoming one of the most popular places for families to go in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

8. Kimbell Art Museum

The Kimbell Art Museum is Fort Worth’s premier art museum believing in art excellence not the size of the collection.  Here you will be able to see works from Michelangelo, Matisse, Monet, Rembrandt, and a host of other famous artists from the antiquities to the 20th century.

7. Fort Worth Botanic Garden

Fort Worth Botanic Garden is the oldest botanical garden in Texas and one of the larger ones at 109 acres of space.  Fort Worth Botanic Garden has over 2,500 different species of plants to see ranging from tropical plants in their 10,000 square foot conservatory to local species housed in their Texas Native Forest Boardwalk Garden.

6. Visit a Sporting Event

No matter what the season there is a team playing at the highest American level in the Dallas Fort Worth Area.  The Rangers, Stars, Mavericks, Cowboys, and FC Dallas all call this area home.

5. Dallas Museum of Art

The Dallas Museum of Art ranks among the top art museum in the United States.  Located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas, it houses more than 20,000 works of art in its 370,000 square foot modern building.  It is an all-encompassing museum having objects from around the world.

4. Visit a Zoo

This area is home to not one but two outstanding zoos.  The Dallas Zoo houses 1,800 animals at its 106 acre zoo and has the world class Giants of the Savanna exhibit in its Wilds of Africa part of the zoo.  The Fort Worth Zoo is home to 5,000 animals and the state of the art Museum of Living Art, one of the top Herpetariums in the country.

3. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is highly acclaimed and ranks as one of the best botanical gardens in the country.  This 66 acre botanical garden is a must see especially during their Dallas Blooms days in spring.

2. Sixth Floor Museum

Walking in the footsteps of history is what you will be able to do when you visit the Sixth Floor Museum which is the location where Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot and killed President John F. Kennedy.  The Sixth Floor Museum chronicles what happened before, during, and after that tragic day.

1. Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District

Get a feel for where the West began at the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.  This area has a little bit of everything for the cowboy in all of us.
