What makes our Marriage Work – give ’em a break

We have enjoyed spending time with my family over New Years as our Christmas celebration.  My sister Julie and her husband Neil came into town and we all got together to celebrate.  Neil is not only our brother-in-law but he is Kenny’s best friend from college.  We are so blessed to have our best friends as our family too!

One added bonus to having them in town was that Neil and Kenny got to get away for a while and watch The Hobbit at the movie theater.  They both were looking forward to seeing it and got to get a nice little break to hang out. Later that same day Julie and me and our younger sister Lori took a little girls trip to Hobby Lobby to do some fun shopping while the boys watched our baby girls.

It is important to spend time with your spouse and quality time together as a family, but a little chance to get away with friends can be important too.  It gives you each a break to just relax and when you come back together you get that spark and thrill of seeing each other again.  It doesn’t have to be time away with friends nescessarily.  Sometimes a little break away alone at a book store, a chance to go for a three mile run, a hot bubble bath or a salon appointment to get your hair cut, just a little break can do wonders for your spirit.

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, so give your spouse a chance to feel your absence and you will enjoy that hello kiss even more when you come back together.
