Whenever Kenny and I travel we always make a point of finding a really good pizza restaurant. We usually check the reviews online and make sure that it is going to be something special before we order our official pizza for the trip. Whenever we are visiting Topeka we always get the rare opportunity of enjoying pizza from Via’s Pizzeria, it is our very favorite of all time and just happens to be owned by Kenny’s brother and sister-in-law.
One of the things that makes Via’s Pizzeria so special is that it is gourmet pizza at an affordable price. The taste is exceptionally fresh, they make their own dough and sauce every day as well as cutting their own fresh vegetable toppings. This is such a unique concept with so many pizza places using frozen dough and canned sauce. It really makes Via’s stand out.
Kenny’s favorite pizza is always the traditional pepperoni, but Via’s certainly offers us a ton of tasty varieties. For the crust alone you have several delicious options- white or wheat, in your choice of thin, original hand tossed or chicago deep dish. They also provide a gluten-free option which I’m sure is a real treat for anyone with a gluten allergy or who has to follow a gluten free diet.
They provide many more than just the traditional toppings with such choices as- beef, pepperoni, Italian sausage, turkey pepperoni, pork sausage, garlic chicken, Canadian bacon, broccoli, spinach, green peppers, red peppers, bacon, red onion, jalapeno, fresh mushrooms, cucumbers, black olives, Roma tomatoes, chopped garlic, feta cheese, pineapple, and mandarin oranges.
Via’s also has a wide variety of gourmet pizza options. One of our favorites is L’Opera, a fifteen inch pizza covered with mushrooms, black olives, red and green peppers, red onion, tomatoes, beef, Italian sausage, and pepperoni.
The choices don’t stop there, they have a wide variety of other choices including cheesebread, garlic parmesan knots, chicken wings, a dinner salad, soup of the day and some delicious grinder subs.
If you finish you meal and possibly have some room left you must try their dessert pizza, they are big enough to satisfy your sweet craving and finish off your dinner, but small enough to fit in that little corner that you saved for dessert.
Via’s Pizzeria competed in the World Pizza Expo in Las Vegas which is basically The Olympics of pizza and placed 14th overall. Trust us, it’s that good.
Kenny’s brother, the owner is very creative and is always coming up with new topping combinations for us to try out. One awesome specialty I remember included cajun jerk chicken, oh it was so good! If ever find yourself in or near Topeka, Kansas you must make this a stop for lunch or dinner, your taste buds will thank you!
