Freedom Rock: A Tribute to the Real Superheroes

Freedom RockWhen Karen and I were traveling up through the heart of our great nation, and were going through Iowa I told her that we had to stop by and see the Freedom Rock.  She had no idea about what I was talking about, but that is one of the great things about my wife if she knows that I want to go see it then she is more than happy to tag along.   If you are like Karen and have no idea about the Freedom Rock in Iowa go check out their website by clicking here.  It is a wonderful story.Patriot RockFreedom Rock is a memorial thanking U.S. veterans past and present and their families for their service and sacrifice.  Without those brave men and women none of us that call the United States home would be able to enjoy the freedoms, rights, and privileges that we have today.  Like the military or not without them our country would not even exist.  From the minuteman that put their foot down and told Britain that enough was enough to those soldiers liberated Europe from Nazi Germany to our brave men and women that serve today we all owe them a debt of gratitude and artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II found a wonderful way to say thank you.Freedom Rock IowaSorensen, every Memorial Day, since 1999 goes to a little out of the way place just west of Des Moines on Interstate 80 and paints incredible scenes of the real superheroes of the United States.  Each year he creates a wonderful piece of art to say thanks for their sacrifice, and the artwork is really good.  I do not know how he can make the pictures so crisp when the work is done on 12 foot boulder.  I would think that contours of the rock would make it very difficult, but the work looks like it could have just as easily been done on canvas.Freedom Rock 2012Karen and I know that if we are ever traveling on I-80 through Iowa we will make sure to take time to stop by and see the Freedom Rock.  Veterans, no matter if it was a popular war or not, deserve our thanks for allowing us to live the life that we want to live inside this great country.
