Sunday Scripture – Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Last weeks verse was ‘Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires’.  I think a lot of people look at this scripture and think God will grant your wishes like a genie.  It doesn’t work that way. When Kenny and I really read this verse it stood out to us that it says HE will give you your heart’s desires, not He will fulfill your heart’s desires. He will place the desires in your heart. In other words, He has a plan for you. It might not be the plan you think it should be, but it is His perfect plan.  When you spend time daily delighting in the Lord it is much easier to be on the right path so your desires are His desires for you.

This weeks verse is very similar to last weeks, but it goes a little deeper.  Besides just delighting in the Lord you must trust Him with all your heart.  So in those times when you are off in the wilderness, on your own path and things might seem a little rocky, remember to look for the Lord and trust in Him knowing that He will lead you to the right path.

When I think about this I think of times in my life when I said “I have everything I want.” That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to have a fancy new house and cars and clothes etc. It means I have my “wants” in order. My EXPECTATIONS are filled. And I am happy with what I have. There are others that have more monetarily than I do and some others who don’t have as much but I am happy where I am and with what I have.
