11 week photo
Happy Baby, Happy Wife, Happy Hubby, Happy Life!! We are so excited that things are returning to ‘normal’, It is a new normal for sure, but more routine and predictable than earlier weeks. And that is very good when it comes to taking care of a little baby. She and I both feel more secure when there is a little predictability to our day.
We nurse, Momma takes a shower, we sing and read a Bible story, sometimes go for a walk, take a nap, then back to nursing. I feel like we have things pretty down until about 3:30 and that’s when I start watching the clock for Kenny to get home. That is ALWAYS a highlight of mine and M’s day.
She is growing and changing all the time, getting more control of her hands and reaching out to grab things. It is fun to see her learning and all the new things she is able to do. She has started doing a little lip suction thing with her tongue that is super cute, she sucks half of her upper lip down with her tongue and then lets it go with a little click sound. I hope I can catch that on film one of these days.
Highlight of the week:
Karen- M is just on the verge of laughing. I was teasing her with my fake sneezing today and she was smiling so big! I started laughing, continuing my fake sneezes and she let out a cute little giggle. Definitely the highlight of my week, I can’t wait to hear a bunch more of those!
Kenny- It is fun to see her personality coming out more. She is using her hands more and reaching out to grab a hold of things. It is a highlight to see her growing and getting stronger. It is exciting and a little scary, she’ll be crawling before we know it.
Product we’re loving:
Karen- My sweet little sister Julie let me borrow an amazing little baby bathtub, it folds up to save space when you store it and it’s base fits perfectly in our kitchen sink. M absolutely loves being down in the water. Her eyes get wide and then she just relaxes right down into her little hot tub while we get her nice and clean. Thanks Julie we appreciate you!
Kenny- M and I have fun with her little swing. It’s not something we just put her in and she swings for hours, but it is something different, rather than holding her, or her laying on a blanket, she can be next to me and swing. We listen to music together and I can interact with her.
Struggle:
Karen- I’m doing pretty great! I’d say my only struggle right now is that little window of time between 3:30 and whenever Kenny gets home. I have pretty much exhausted all my tricks and am ready for a new person to perk me back up.
Kenny- We had been pretty spoiled with several weeks where she would go right to bed at night. We’d sing and bounce her to sleep, then put her in her crib and she would sleep for between six and nine hours before waking up to nurse. The past few days when we put her in bed she is awake within an hour and we start the process over again before she will sleep for the night. She is still a great little sleeper and gives us several long chunks of sleep, but hopefully we’ve just had a few off days and she’ll go back to her earlier ways.
Karen- I’m learning to quit putting off things, like saying or thinking ‘oh, I’ll do that tomorrow’ or ‘I’ll save that outfit for a special occasion’…. time goes so quickly you just have to enjoy the moment! M has a precious pink dress that I was saving for an important outing and when the time finally came it was too small (so sad). I think my Mom and I will be able to modify the neckline and she’ll still get to wear it, but I’m going to have to just play dress up with her and take pictures so she gets to wear all her cute clothes even if we’re just here at home.
Kenny- It’s funny now that I have a little baby at home lots of people want to know how she’s doing, and how is Karen doing, and I love talking about my family and telling people how things are going, but sometimes when I’m rushing into work in the morning and need to get some things done before my class starts I just don’t have enough time to share all of our adventures.
Quote of the week:
Kenny has made a playlist on the ipod just for M. It has soft soothing songs that just help her drift right off to sleep. Several of them are by Jim Croce. We don’t know why, but Kenny just discovered one night that Croce really calmed her down and puts her right to sleep and we’ve been using it ever since. We usually reserve that playlist for night time just before she goes to bed. But sometimes if she is really fighting sleep during the day I will resort to the playlist.
Karen: “well, I had to use the playlist twice today”
Kenny: “Croce?”
Karen: “Yep”
Kenny: “See, I told you, it works every time”
It has been a great eleventh week and we are looking forward to many, many more!
