M’s Week 4

Our baby girl is now four weeks old.  She is starting to get a little bit more of a personality, smiling more each day.  She seems to want to nurse all the time, which makes life a bit of a struggle for Karen because there is not much I can do about that.  We have continued to take her for walks as long as the weather is not to hot.  M sure loves going outside we just wish it was not so hot all the time.

Highlight of the week:

Karen- Getting to spend time with family.  Karen and M have had some positive strides in the breastfeeding department.

Kenny- M is smiling a lot more now.  There is just something about having your own child look up at you and her little mouth corners turn up, it just gives me an amazing feeling.

Product we’re loving:

Karen- Karen is loving Earth Mama Angel Baby- Angel Baby Bottom Balm.  So far no diaper rashes and any redness is cleared up quickly whenever we get our balm on.

Kenny- As strange as this may sound but I have been using an exercise ball a lot when I am holding M.  It is so much easier to bounce her.  I have my mother-in-law to thank for showing us this one.

Struggle:

Karen- Karen is just struggling with feeling overwhelmed with things.  Wanting to spend time with me, her family, and taking care of M has taken a toll on her.  It has been very hard for her to find any personal time because even when I am taking care of M any noise even if it is just a coo, Karen does not want to miss.

Kenny- Whenever Karen does not get her afternoon nap things become a little bit more of a struggle especially if it is two in the morning and M is still wanting to nurse.  Things will hopefully get a little bit easier as soon as the holiday is over.

Something we’ve learned:

Karen- Karen learned that she just needs to take it one day at a time.  Until M is old enough to get her circadian rhythms down it is hard to get into a routine.  So each day has its ups and downs so it becomes difficult to compare days.

Kenny- I have learned that we need to get out of the house at least once a day. Going to see our family or to go for a walk breaks up the day and makes it better.

Quote of the week:

Karen- Our nephew (almost 3) was eager to show off his new little cousin.  He said sweetly, “come see our girl” to the rest of the family.

Kenny- Usually when I am holding her I will sing, which I am not much of a singer, but M seems to like it.
Kenny- (singing Billy Joel) “She’ll see I’m not so tough, just because I’m in love with an uptown girl.” M starts to get this grin on her face  “Look Karen she is smiling!”

It has been a great fourth week and we are looking forward to many, many more!
