Monday Musing: Baby on the Mind

Work in Progress This Monday Musing section has just been a way to get things that I have been thinking about out there and a way for me to vent about things I’m struggling with, thinking about, or just my take on things going on in society.  However, lately as our babies birth date clock is getting closer to striking 0 my mind has been particularly occupied with what it will be like with having a precious little baby girl in my arms.  I am really excited but at the same time all of it is really daunting.

I am sure all first time parents start to get those self doubts, and they have really come these last few days as Karen and I have gone to two baby classes.  Both classes were well put together and gave out tons of information, and I knew that I was going in with a very limited knowledge base on what it takes to take care of a baby, but it really hit home just how much I did not know.  Doubts are starting to creep into my mind and I keep running through situations and wondering what I will do when this happens.  Like any good dad I just know that I want to be the best father that I can be and be active in taking care of my baby.  Even though the whole diaper thing is…I don’t even want to think about it…I can’t even finish my sentence.

Luckily for me, I have a great partner in Karen who has been around her nephews a lot when they were babies so I know I will be counting on her experience.  So, today just like many other days that have come before this one and those in the future, my thoughts were on what it will be like to be a dad for the first time.

Oh, Kenny you make me laugh out loud. You have soooo much more information and knowledge than I did when I had my first baby. Neither of us knew what to do. You will do great. I can’t wait. Diaper changes and other such things are so much easier when it is your own child.
