Summer Movies 2012

Being two people who enjoy going to the movies we always look forward to the summer blockbuster season. While there are a lot of movies that come out during the summer unfortunately most of them end up not being worth the price of the ticket.  Here is a list of ten movies that Karen and I are excited to see and hope that they live up to our expectations.

The Raven – April 27th
The Raven

This movie stars John Cusack, Luke Evans and Alice Eve.  After looking at the trailer it reminds of us of the recent Sherlock Holmes movies but set in the dark world of Edgar Allan Poe’s literature.  The Raven is about a madman that is committing terrible crimes using Poe’s stories as inspiration.  When they cannot stop the killer they turn to Poe to help them track the murderer down.

The Avengers – May 4th
The Avengers

This movie will bring together a team of superheroes or past summer blockbuster movie characters to save the Earth.  Of the 10 movies that are coming out in the summer months this is the one that I am least excited about because Thor, Iron Man 2, and Captain America did not live up to the hype of the first Iron Man.  So, if I keep expectations low maybe it will not be that disappointing.  The Avengers will star Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner,  Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Hemsworth.

Snow White and the Huntsman – June 1st
Snow White and the Huntsman

This movie Stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Chris Hemsworth.  Snow White and the Huntsman is the retelling of the classic children’s story with a darker more intensified look.  Karen and I are both excited about this one.

Prometheus – June 8th

Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, and Charlize Theron star in this Ridley Scott science fiction movie that I hope turns out to be just as good as 1979 Alien movie.  Prometheus is about a team of explorers looking for the causes of mankind, but just might have found the thing that will end the human race.

Brave – June 22nd

Pixar’s first original material since Up, and we hope it is as good.  This movie stars Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Kelly MacDonald, and Craig Ferguson and it is about princess named Merida who defies her culture and causes chaos throughout her land.  Merida then must be brave enough to undo her damage and save the kingdom.

The Amazing Spider- Man – July 3rd
The Amazing Spider Man

This movie is a reboot to the Spider-Man franchise and Karen and I hope that they’ve learned a thing or two from the success of the last couple of Batman movies and get it right this time.  We were never fans of the Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies starring Tobey Maguire, but we are anticipating this one to be much better.  This movie will look at the origins of Peter Parkers transformation into becoming Spider-Man.  It will star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field.

The Dark Knight Rises – July 20th
Dark Knight Rises

Set eight years after Batman did battle with the Joker in the last Batman movie, Dark Night Rises finds Batman dueling Bane and Catwoman.  If it is like the last two in the series then this one will be another blockbuster and let us hope that this is not the last one in the series.  Dark Knight Rises will star Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, and Gary Oldman.

Bourne Legacy – August 3rd
The Bourne Legacy

This movie stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, and Edward Norton.  Bourne Legacy is set in the world that was created by Robert Ludlem in the Jason Bourne novels.  It is the story of a different assassin created in the same program that created Jason Bourne.  We hope that it is just as exciting and action packed as the rest of the Bourne movies.

Premium Rush – August 24th
Premium Rush

Unlike most of the summer movies at least this one looks like an original story.  Premium Rush is about a New York City bike messenger that ends up receiving a package that many dangerous people want.  Figuring out that people are out to get him and the message he is carrying he must use all of his skills to make it through the crowded streets of New York.  Premium Rush will star Joseph Godon-Levitt and Michael Shannon.

Lawless – August 31st
It has been a while since Hollywood has created a good 1930’s gangster movie, here is to hoping that Lawless will put an end to that.  This movie is about a moonshine gang in Virginia that comes under pressure when corrupt law enforcement agents want in on the illegal trade.  Lawless will star Shia LaBeoug, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska.

What movies are you guys looking forward to this summer?
