Flora Photography Number 25- Pink Orchid

Orchid Flora photography is something that I have gotten into since Karen and I have been married.  She likes to go to gardens and I like to take pictures so naturally those two things have come together.  Is it my favorite thing in the world to photograph?  No, not by a long shot, give me wild animals or beautiful landscapes any day of the week and I would be a happy camper.  Unfortunately, I have a lot more access to plants than I do to mountain sunsets or lions, tigers, and bears.  So, I take what I can get and overall I have been relatively pleased with what I have been able to photograph so far, and that, to me is the main point.  For anybody that has taken up photography as a hobby just remember to go out there and have fun.

This picture was taken at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City.  Karen and I were there a few weeks ago and I was able to get this shot.  What I like about it is not so much the pink orchid itself, but the green palms behind it giving a circular pattern for the background.  The shot was a bugger to get because my camera basically uses autofocus, and the sensor could not make up its mind between getting the flower or the palm in focus.  I tried all sorts of things from moving to zooming and it just would not get to where I wanted it to be.  I wish I could tell you some technical jargon on how I got it to work, but I am not that good.  All I can tell you is that it was just a lot of trial and error and by the fifth shot the sensor and I finally got on the right page and this is the picture that I got.  So the old adage goes if at first you don’t succeed try, try again.

Thank you for commenting. As for not giving up, I learned that from my Momma.
