Happy Valentines Day!!

Happy Valentines Day everybody!  We hope you have a wonderful day full of love.  I saw this fun little survey floating around the blog-o-sphere and thought I’d give it a go.  Hope you enjoy.

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
Well, we first knew of each other on October 30th, 2006 and first met in person on December 30th, 2006 so it has been a little over six years, wow!

Karen & Kenny Hawaiian Sunset2. How did you meet? {What’s your “love” story?}
As funny as it sounds now, we actually met on myspace.  Kenny saw my picture and profile somehow through his circle of friends and was brave enough to write me a message.  He said I seemed genuine and like a real person and that he would love to get to know me better.  We wrote back and forth day after day and played several rounds of ’20 questions’ asking each other questions to get to know one another better.  We even started a Bible study together before we ever met in person.  It was Kenny’s idea, he mentioned that things were going so well between us that it would be nice to have a biblical foundation as the basis of our relationship.
PA200684We finally met in person after two months of writing back and forth and the rest is history.  I am so very thankful that God brought us togther!

3. If married, how long have you been married?
We have been married for three and a half years, the best three and a half years of my life without a doubt.
wedding canvas4. If you are married, where did you get married? Big or small wedding?
We got married at a gorgeous garden in the city where we live.  We had an outdoor ceremony amongst the flowers, under God’s big blue sky and had the reception inside the gardens ballroom afterwards.  It was the most wonderful day of my entire life!  It was a medium large wedding, probably about 150 guests.  It was so wonderful to share that day with all of our friends and family
102_98495. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
We call each other Babe or Baby a lot, I’d say we have a lot more funny little inside jokes than nick-names.
P70407636. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
His faithfulness, to God, to me, and to our sweet baby on the way.
His intelligence, Kenny is so smart and well read, he always has an answer to any question that comes to my mind.  I feel so safe and secure with him by my side.
His sense of humor, every day is filled with laughter when we are together.  I love that we just LOVE to be with each other no matter what we are doing.

17. Tell us how he proposed?

Kenny proposed at the school where he teaches.  He was coaching basketball at the time and asked me to come and take some pictures of his basketball team.  He got them all lined up on the bleachers and as I was looking through the camera viewfinder they started pulling out a HUGE banner that said ‘Will you marry me?’
Kenny's Basketball Boys proposal (2)Kenny started walking towards me and knelt down on one knee.  I was shaking and grinning from ear to ear, while my eyes welled up with tears.  He said the most beautiful things and that he had loved me since the first day we met- while he opened a beautiful blue ring box and showed me the most gorgeous engagement ring on the planet.

Of course I said yes and he slid the ring on my finger while his basketball boys cheered in the background.
Hooray 2I was so excited and enamored with my new engagement ring that I missed my exit on the highway while driving home.

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?
Kenny is the best gift giver in the world.  He always comes up with something special, sentimental and unexpected.  He usually focuses his gifting energy on Christmas but he brings me flowers all the time just because he loves me.  Romance isn’t ONLY for Valentines Day
249. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
In my head I would say a sunset dinner on the beach, but if I was being realistic it would probably be a cozy movie while relaxing on the couch.
Hawaii Kiss10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?
We love traveling anywhere and everywhere.  We would like to visit the island of Kauai (in Hawaii) one of these days.  That will complete our visit to all of the Hawaiian islands.  We would also love to go to Alaska or Canada, such a wild untouched landscape, gorgeous!  A visit to Australia or an African Safari would also be an unforgettable experience.  Basically we’re happy to do anything as long as it is together.
not all who wander11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine’s Day.
We usually try to take a trip somewhere fun as our Valentines Day gift to each other, but with me being 23 weeks pregnant and on semi bed rest it is probably going to be a low key Valentines Day this year.  We will probably get some yummy dinner ‘to go’ and watch a movie together.
612. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day?
I did have one special request, instead of a big beautiful bunch of cut flowers I’m really wanting an Orchid this year.
Hammock13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
Kenny has several great posts here about what makes our marriage work.  I think basically it comes down to really caring about the other person, for example saying please and thank you, even for the little things and never taking each other for granted.  Another great piece of advice is to always have fun together.  Not a day goes by that we’re not cracking each other up about something.  Last but probably the most important is to keep God as the focus of your relationship and your life.
414. Show us a picture of what love means to you.

close kiss
