Wildlife Photography Number 21 – Bison at the Tetons

21 Buffalo at the Grand TetonsKaren and I have been blessed with the opportunity to go on vacations.  In part because I am a school teacher and one of the perks is having time off, and the fact that Karen is such a hard worker that her bosses have basically told her she can have as much time off as she needs as long as she gets her job done.  Those two things have let us go on many great trips which you can check out by clicking on our lists page above or clicking here to see where we have been.

This photo of the bison in front of the Tetons in Wyoming was a shot that I had been trying to get the whole time we spent there.  I was inspired by our guide book which was called “Compass American Guides: Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks” which is a wonderful guide for anybody heading out that way.  My shot did not reach the same level of quality as the one on the cover, but I am not a professional photographer either so I am happy with what I was able to achieve.

I like how the bison came out except I would have liked to have been able to get its head up in the air so I could have been able to make out its eyes.  Also, the clouds the three days we were there did not cooperate.  Most of the time the sky was completely clouded over, I would have liked a little more blue sky in the shot.  Overall, it is in my top 25 because it has some of the greatest symbols of the West – a bison munching on the prairie grass and the majestic peaks of the Tetons rising behind it.
