Yosemite Valley: A Piece of Heaven on Earth

Yosemite Valley from the overlookYosemite Valley is one of the most beautiful places in the United States.  It is only seven miles long and less than a mile wide, and yet it contains some of the most famous physical features in the United States.  Some of those features include the world-famous cliffs, El Capitan and Half Dome.  It also is a paradise for those that are interested in waterfalls because it has two unforgettable ones in Yosemite and Bridalveil Falls.Bridelvail FallsThe valley only represents one percent of the park and while there are other places definitely worth visiting like Mariposa Grove, most visitors will arrive and stay in Yosemite Valley.  It is truly a spectacular place just do not think you will have it all to yourself.  In the summer time there can be bumper to bumper traffic on the road through the valley.  You might want to visit the valley during the off season which is before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.  I have heard that winter can be a great time to go to Yosemite Valley but I cannot attest to that personally.  When Karen and I went it was late May a few days before Memorial Day weekend.  We left the park on that Friday and by Friday afternoon it was jammed pack with visitors.

Get out of your car and hike around the Merced River.  Remember this is bear country so take the proper precautions and talk to the rangers at the visitor centers for good information on what to do and where to go.  We then would tell you to take a day going up the Mist Trail to Nevada Falls, which is just jaw dropping and unbelievable.  Finally on your last day do as much as you can to soak up the valley by going up to Glacier Point.  Do as much as you can while enjoying your vacation because before you know it you will be wishing you were back there.  I know I do.

It is a lot like Yellowstone in the sense that there is no other place like it.

Your photos are AMAZING! For as much European travel as I am getting in while living over here… my U.S. travels are severely lacking. Yosemite is definitely on the list. I am now inspired!
