Number 3: Mist Trail Yosemite

Rainbow on Mist TrailNumber 3 is a photograph of a rainbow on the Mist Trail at Yosemite National Park.  That was a pretty good day, a somewhat tiring day, but a good day.  Karen’s Dad and I decided to take Yosemite signature hike the Mist Trail all the way up to Nevada Falls.  This photograph was taken next to Vernal Falls looking back and with the sun just right and enough mist it forms a perfect rainbow.

In 2010 Oklahoma City was hit by several snow and ice storms and my school district decided to make up the time missed by extending each school day.  They extended the days so much we ended up getting out of school early for summer vacation.  I have always wanted to go to Yosemite National Park, and I read that the best time to go to miss the crowds and see the grandeur of Yosemite’s waterfalls at its peak is to go in the last weeks of May or the first of June.  So, that is what we did.  Yosemite did not disappoint in any way.

Karen and I like to travel and sometimes we like to spend our vacation time alone and other times we like to have family and friends with us.  Karen’s parents are non-stop go-go-go and we decided it would be nice to see if they would like to slow down for a couple of days and go on vacation with us, and they said yes.  It was really nice to spend some time with them away from all sorts of responsibilities at home and just able to relax and see them outside of our usual family gatherings.

It was a great hike a little tough because there are 1000 feet of elevation gain, but I would do it again in heartbeat, what made it special was the fact that I got to spend some time with my father-in-law.  The only thing that would have made it better is if Karen would have been well enough (had a 24 hour stomach flu) to enjoy the views and company too.  Maybe next time I can get Karen up to Nevada Falls.
